Take-Two brands XCOM: EU iOS a success, mobile port of Civilization V seems likely

XCOM - Enemy Unknown iOS iPad 4 gameplay screenshot by Firaxis Games 2K China Take-Two Interactive 2013The iOS version of Firaxis Games’ XCOM: Enemy Unknown is certainly not the cheapest strategy mobile game that you can get on the iTunes App Store, but as we’ve explained in our in-depth review of it, it’s a “huge win for portable gaming” that all core mobile gamers really shouldn’t miss.

Well, it seems like a lot of iOS gamers agree with us, as the Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick described the game’s launch as a “success”, adding that it “illustrates that consumers are willing to pay a premium price for a premium entertainment”. According to him, “this bodes well for the opportunity to deliver profitably our most immersive triple-A titles to mobile platforms as they evolve.”

This is probably as much of an unofficial confirmation of Sid Meier’s Civilization V iOS as we’re going to get, but it also suggests that Take-Two is planning to release a lot more mobile games in the near future. Some of the ones we’re rooting for the most include Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Anniversary, Railroad Tycoon 4, and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne Mobile. Of course, we’d like nothing better than to get a new, second (technically third) Bioshock mobile game, but let’s be realistic – that’s not happening anytime soon.

In any case, we’ll be keeping a close eye on Take-Two Interactive and their subsidiaries in the coming months because it seems like they’re brewing up something big. Who knows, maybe they even decide to develop Android games?
