Temple Run 2 becomes the fastest-growing video game of all times
A few hours ago, Temple Run 2 just passed an epic milestone of 50 million downloads. Considering the fact that the game came out only 2 weeks ago, that means it broke the record set by Angry Birds in April, 2012 (50 million downloads in 35 days), and became the fastest-growing mobile game of all times.
Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi, said that “Temple Run has evolved into something so much bigger than us”, adding that “The game has performed beyond our wildest dreams, and we are thrilled that gamers and fans have embraced Temple Run 2 in such a short period of time.”
Just like Rovio and its Angry Birds series, Imangi expanded the Temple Run franchise onto JEM Sportswear, digital comics with Ape Entertainment, as well as card and board games with Spin Master and many more. Also, Imangi and Disney Pixar launched Temple Run: Brave in June 2012, a combination of the universe of Disney Pixar’s animated film, “Brave,” and Temple Run, which became a no. 1 app on the App Store soon after its release.
So, as much as core and hardcore gamers (like us) love complex titles of handheld quality on their smartphones and tablets, this only proves that mobile gaming owes a lot of its popularity to casual games like Temple Run and Angry Birds. The thing is, it’s hard to say whether that’s a good thing or not.
Regardless of anything, however, congratulations to Imangi are in order.
